Toro’s new designed professional sprayer needed to have the extended boom arm retract if an obstacle was encountered. The solutions was a double lobe, breakaway cam casting that returns the boom to spray position after impact with obstacles during forward or reverse machine travel.
The significant challenge of this part was getting the mating sinusoidal curves perfect in the core so that the two castings would snap back to the proper spray position. The inserts shown are the machining fixture locators so that all tolerances are taken from the mating curves.
